Drooling Anime Fan Sales

Drooling Anime Fan Sales has been looking into and working on new ideas, working on moving into and fixing up a new location, building a new web site and other matters. As a result the web site has been down for a while but will be back up once everything is in order. Until then we have a working beta version of the new site that allows you to try out pretty much everything except the Anime Community Bulletin Board section and the new shopping cart. Please note that we currently are not taking any orders and not everything listed in the beta version of the site is in stock. To check it out enter through the Page Layout Info page which will familiarize you with some of the common functions and the general layout of the new site. Certain aspects have been changed and various bugs in portions of the CGI running the beta version were fixed but for the most part what you see here is in the final version.
You can let us know what you think of the new site as well as tell us what you're interested in through our Customer Suggestions: General Poll and/or our Customer Suggestions: Detailed Poll.

For those that do not know D.A.F.S. sells some 275 different pencil boards/shitajiki, about 330 idol/lami cards, about 50 different posters, about 250 translated manga (sold at a discount), almost 100 Japanese import calendars and many of other types of items to make for over 50 different types of goods relating to over 180 different titles. Completely fan owned and operated D.A.F.S. is set up and run so that the ordering process is as easy as possible, prices are low and you know what it is you're ordering through images and descriptions of each item.

This was always here but got buried further down the page over time. If you like you can also either join the D.A.F.S. mailing list so that you'll be notified when the site is back up and other things both at that time and in the future. If not that you could just be put on a notify list so that you'll be told when the site is back up and that's it.

Aug. 26, 2003 update:
OK, we'd like to clear a few things up, first off D.A.F.S. is not all we do, we're involved in different things, D.A.F.S. was started and maintained to help out other fans get anime related goods and because we really enjoy anime. An anime related goods on-line store is by no means a big money maker, unless you're willing to sell the illegal copy goods from Taiwan, China and the like that is (such items can be marked up 100%-300% or more and still be considered cheap while Japanese goods with barely any mark-up are considered expensive), in fact it at best just gives us some spending cash. Due to this so we have food to eat, a roof over our heads and in short, can live, we need to attend to what allows us to do these things. Once things are back in order and everything is not quite as hectic we can bring D.A.F.S. back on-line.

We are not Taking Orders Yet:
It doesn't matter if you call, e-mail fax or snail mail us, the answer will be the same. There will be no exceptions, once we're ready we'll put the final site up and be taking orders then but not before.

Our E-mail Addresses:
The info, orders and webguru addresses will be removed or be only out going addresses once the site is back up. We're just getting too much spam sent to these addresses so once the site is back up those will be changed to other addresses and no e-mail addresses will be listed on the site. To send an e-mail after D.A.F.S. is back on-line you'd either need to know the new addresses or use the on-line e-mail form we'll have on the web site.

Watch Out for Viruses People!:
There's a pretty nasty set of Windows XP aimed viruses/worms/etc going around at the time of this notice, everyone on-line should do themselves a huge favour and make sure they have a good anti-virus program and firewall install on their systems. Better to spend some money on something that will work well than get nothing, something cheap, some freebie program or rely on the base firewalls in some OSs then get nailed by a virus which will cause a great deal of headaches for you and could cost you a fair bit of money and/or time when you have to replace/repair the damage. Also once you have an anti-virus program make sure it's updated frequently (at least once a week, your firewalls should be updated as well) and you do full system scans weekly. Plus just because you have an anti-virus program does not mean you can not get nailed, all they do is protect you from known viruses and other such things when used properly. They won't do a thing for you against brand new viruses, if it isn't set-up properly, isn't used to scan new files or if you haven't acquired the most recent updates so just because you have an anti-virus program doesn't mean you're 100% safe, it just means that you're safer than you would be without one. Finally anti-virus programs are good at protecting you from getting viruses but not as good at getting rid of them once you've been infected or even finding them in some cases (some viruses really know how to hide then some will sit dormant for a long time before becoming active at which point it could make a real mess of things and may even instruct your computer to preform a full reformat to help hide it's path which also wipes all your hard drives clean) so treat them as a tool to help protect you, not something to save your computer if you get it infected or that will do all the work of keeping you virus free.

Another thing that can help out is to switch to another OS if at all possible. The Windows OSs are big targets for those making viruses and other related things. Other OSs like the Mac OSs, Linux, other UNIX based OSs as well as others just don't have as many viruses aimed at them or have the legion of hackers looking for ways to mess with your computer. "I hate M$" has become the motto of many people out there so anything made by Microsoft is a target for them.

Beware the In Box:
Many viruses, worms and other such things get distributed by way of e-mail, then once you are infected by way of an e-mail attachment many hijack your e-mail program and send themselves out by checking what e-mail addresses you have in your various e-mail boxes and such then send themselves to those addresses using your e-mail address. Plus just to make things really fun some seem to alter the from address before sending itself out so it looks like it's being sent by someone else. When you get an e-mail with a file attachment here's a few simple rules to follow to keep you safer.
  1. If you don't know the sender delete the e-mail and the attachment even if your anti-virus program says it's safe.
  2. If you do know the sender but weren't expecting the file e-mail the sender to make sure he/she did send it, even if your anti-virus program says it's safe. If it's not a large file it's also a good idea to delete it in the meantime just so you don't accidently open it and get infected if it did turn out to be a virus, your friend can always send those little files again, remember, better safe than sorry.
  3. Treat exe, pif and scr files like the plague unless you know they're safe because you know the sender and were expecting the file. These file types are among the most commonly used ones to send viruses so if you see one with such an extension, be carful.
  4. Do not use an e-mail program that automatically opens e-mail attachments or disable that option if it has such an option. Microsoft's Outlook Express is or was the worst for this and that "convenience" was the reason so many have gotten infected in the past and may still be getting infected if this "feature" is still in use. The thing is people go through all their e-mail one at a time to weed out the spam then don't pay attention or aren't aware that the next one has a file attachment, they open the e-mail, Outlook opens the file and you've just been infected, lucky you. There are many other e-mail programs out there, some you can use for free, others require a fee then some have a free option that shows you little advertisements in some way. We like Eudora over here, have always used it and highly recommend it.

May 13, 2003 update:
One part of the new Anime Community Bulletin Board section will be a listing of various different anime clubs and conventions which will grow in size over time. If you are in an anime club or part of an anime convention planing group and would like to add it to the list send an e-mail to the info address with the subject line Club & Convention Information which contains as much of the following info as can be provided:

Oct. 01, 2002 update:
Drooling Anime Fan Sales for the most part reached a plateau about three years back already and as such to properly grow we need to venture into other avenues. Arranging this and working with others to get this going is what is taking so long, we need to organize and time things properly so everything will work out as we want them to. We can't say much more than that at this time but will post more when we can. Until things are in place the site will remain down and we will not be accepting new orders. We can not say how long this will take so we'll all have to just wait and see.

July 23, 2002 update:
We've been getting things going on some other matters this past while and had to do some reworking and rethinking on the new shopping cart to avoid potential problems as well as make things easier. Unless we run into some unanticipated complication the site should be up and running within a week. To check it out enter through the Page Layout Info page which will familiarize you with some of the common functions and the general layout of the new site. There will be some changes regarding ordering once the site is back up as detailed below.

Regarding International Orders:
We will not be taking orders from international customers once the site is back up. This means unless you have a US or Canadian address (these also include military bases, embassies and other such places that while not actually in the country are considered a part of the country) we would not be able to accept orders from you. Since we started in late 1996 less than 5% of all orders were from outside the US and Canada, over 10% of all incomplete or canceled orders were from outside the US and Canada and 100% of all credit card fraud attempts were from outside the US and Canada. Overall orders from international countries have proven to be more difficult to handle, it's harder to check up on the card being used, some can not understand English well, some expect preferential treatment and so forth. There are other reasons for this decision but these are some of the main ones, we apologize to our international customers but we need to do this.
Other Changes:

June 10, 2002 update:
We now have a working version of the new site that allows you to try out pretty much everything except the Anime Community Bulletin Board section and the new shopping cart (we're still working on those), in other words we're still not taking order yet. We spent over three days testing it out checking every function using four different browsers (Netscape Communicator, Netscape 6, MS Internet Explorer and Opera) so everything should work for you just as they are supposed to. Please note though that not everything listed at this time is in stock, we just have everything marked as in stock in the stock status file so we could try everything out. To check it out enter through the Page Layout Info page which will familiarize you with some of the common functions and the general layout of the new site. You can let us know what you think through one of the Customer Suggestion Poll pages. We hope to have everything else finished in about 1-2 weeks from now.

May 21, 2002 update:
Our old customer suggestions page provides us with general info as to what you are looking for which is useful in someways but in others a more specific or detailed version would be better. To this end we now have another version, Customer Suggestions: Detailed Poll, which we hope will be just as active and regularly used as the general version.

May 18, 2002 update:
We are considering various changes at this time as described below. If you would like to voice an opinion regarding these matters you can contact the orders dept. at orders@DroolingAnimeFanSales.com.

Possible Shipping Changes:
Rather than offering up a fair list of options we're considering shipping all orders sent to US customers by insured priority mail. This means if anything happens to your order we will be able to do something about it and you should get them in about 2-3 business days from the date they were shipped. Canadian customers will be able to use regular post or Xpresspost as before but in both cases all orders will be fully insured. These changes remove a certain degree of choice from the customer, make insurance mandatory which adds a bit of extra cost but they should also make things a bit easier for both us and the customer as well as allow us to fix most of the occasional shipping problems that come up.
Possible Payment Means Changes:
After being up and running for about three months we hope to be able to arrange things so that we'll be able to accept VISA, Master Card, Discover, American Express and other such credit cards. After that happens we may drop money orders, cheques and other such means of payment as far too often people have not paid for those orders or notify us they wish to cancel their order. Our success rate with credit cards on the other hand has always been much higher, most orders are being paid for that way anyhow and once we can accept more types of cards it will allow more people to pay by that means. It is unfortunate but if this problem persist we will have no choice.
Regarding International Orders:
It is possible that we will stop taking orders from international customers in the near future. This means unless you have a US or Canadian address (these also include military bases, embassies and other such places that while not actually in the country are considered a part of the country) we would not be able to accept orders from you. One reason for this is the much higher likelihood of credit card fraud from these outside countries which is based on our past experience. Another possible reason could related to how certain matters we are investigating right now pan out.

May 15, 2002 update:
Everything is moving along but before making any predictions as to when the site will be back up we want to finish one more task. It's the most complicated part so once that is out of the way the better part of what we need to get done, will be done. Everything else should fall into place nicely after that, then we should be able to see how much farther we have to go yet and how long it will take.

May 03, 2002 update:
Imagine, A Caring Company Drooling Anime Fan Sales is now an Imagine Caring Company which among other things means a portion of all profits will go to charitable organizations. So when you buy your anime goods through D.A.F.S. you're not just getting something for yourself but you're also helping to find a cure for life threatening ailments, fund important medical research, help the needy and assist other worth wild organizations or causes. To learn more about Imagine just click on their logo to the left.

April 26, 2002 update:
Everything has been moved into the new location and the bare minimum to resume shipping orders and some other basic functions has been set up. Although most everything is still in boxes, boxes and still more boxes, then we'll need to figure out what goes where so we're still far from set up here. Hopefully some of the more pressing matters can be cleared up by around the start of May, after which we can start getting to work on the web site. After a week or two of work on that we should have some idea as to about when the work will be done. In the meantime we'd still like to receive your general or detailed suggestions so please keep those coming in.

spam abuse

We here at D.A.F.S. hate spam as much as you do. Being a business we get more than some with about 2-5 helpings of spam a day! D.A.F.S. sends e-mail notices only to those that have requested it and to the proper news groups. Also we do not give out customer info to any company or individual and wish other businesses would do the same. Click the banner below to see what you can do to help stamp out spam.
